An interesting report on 1up.com yesterday has revealed that Square's first foray into the mirky waters of MMOGs is going well, with Final Fantasy XI Gil game already rivalling market-leader Everquest in subscriber numbers. The game apparently boasts 430,000 paying players, versus Everquest's 500,000. |

| Square Working on Final Fantasy XI Follow-Up?

Square Enix has been mum on their MMO plans, even telling investors they would not be releasing another online adventure until after the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2007. Out of the blue, however, comes a report from Japanese newspaper Nikkei Net that a sequel to Final Fantasy XI Gil game is currently in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC simultaneously. |

The recent September update for Final Fantasy XI Gil game brought in some of the biggest game changing features since the game was first released. As a higher level player, the one that was most obvious was the new Level Sync system, which lets players ‘sync' their level down to the same level as someone in their party. It was great: a bunch of us, with levels all over the scale, could all sync up and party together. Even better, your gear scaled too, so no need to re-equip! |

Other details suggest that Wings of the Goddess will have a lot to do with Vana'diel's past. The biggest speculation as of the moment is that time travel may become an option. All of that remains to be seen, and we'll update you to confirm the buzz. |

| August to bring grips, revisions to two-handed weapons for FFXI

Final Fantasy fans better prepare themselves some changes that'll be coming to the game this month. PlayOnline's FFXI Gil game development team has brought word of upcoming changes to two-handed weapons, as well as the addition of weapon grips to the game. |
